iandevlin.com is now html5 compliant!
§

A while ago I wrote a blog post on html5, and afterwards I decided to re-code my existing homepage to be html5 compliant, and now it is! Helpfully the guys at W3C have added validation for html5, albeit experimental, but it does the trick.
I’ve tested it on Internet Explorer 6, 7 and 8, Firefox 3.5.5, Safari 4.0.3, Opera 10.10 and Google Chrome, and all seems to work fine.
Of course this blog is not html5 compliant, since it’s WordPress and the theme itself isn’t coded in html5, but that may change in the future should I get the time.

oooh very nice
I`m sticking with html4..
Are there really any major needs to start learning 5 yet?
Its not a W3C recommendation yet.. and the only major benefits I can see is that it brings down file size of the html page – with everyone getting better broadband – less lines of code may mean tidier coding style.
There is obviously the added improvement of client side data storage which works way better with google gears and there are a few added niceties such as embedding audio, video, graphics – but you could still do this with javascript and html 4.
Looking through the HTML 5 standards there arent enough extra useful tags for me to really start playing with and migrating too just yet..
The upgrade of CSS is another story though
Hi John, good to see you here
I wouldn’t say that there’s any huge need to start learning html5 as of yet, I’ve just found it quite interesting to do so (in fact I’ll be launching a website soon where I’ll be experimenting with html5!).
There are many new elements and attributes available, but not all of them are supported, but where they are they’re quite useful. The canvas element works in some of the newer browsers and is quite fancy, although I’ve not played about with it yet! (an example demo can be found at 9elements).
I`m not keen on canvas..
I find it very slow in a lot of browsers and still quite buggy..
Whereas flash or Java can provide better assistance.
lol when I see canvas runescape I may change my mind..
I`m loving your new blog btw..
And the articles here are really great spent yesterday trawling around
Well I’ve not tried canvas myself so I currently don’t have an opinion on it. I’m aware it’s not supported on most browsers and on those that it is, I’m sure the experiences vary wildly. A topic for my upcoming html5 site I think!
Thanks, and glad the topics are of some interest!
(btw you need to change your form field for your site, as it has a comma after www)
