As some of you may know, in CSS2 it is possible to change the appearance of an element’s cursor by declaring the value of the element’s cursor property. There are various settings for this, e.g. default, crosshair, and pointer (a full list of values and their descriptions is available over at w3schools), but you can also define your own cursor using the url property.

Two kingfisher watch posts in as many days, but once again there was good news today and therefore I simply had to share it.
Today I was lucky enough to see two kingfishers!
I stood across the river in the usual place where they can be seen and where I saw the kingfisher yesterday, but saw nothing. As I moved on, I suddenly heard one calling and went back. I was able to make one of them out sitting on a branch just above the water, and then another one flew out of the tree and over towards the usual nesting site.
I’m assuming that they’re a male and a female and hopefully they will now breed and rear some chicks.
For further information on kingfishers, check out the RSPB‘s information on them. There is also a recording of what their call sounds like.

Well that didn’t take long! I spotted one of the kingfishers sitting on a branch over the river just yards from their usual nesting place at 08:45 this morning. Granted it was only the one, but hopefully a second kingfisher will turn up within the next few days.
I’ll keep you posted.

I created a word cloud of my blog entries over at Wordle. It’s interesting to see what words are mentioned most often! A link to the full word cloud is shown below.

There’s a spot along the River Cam here in Cambridge where I have noticed kingfishers nesting, usually every year. Sadly last year only one of the pair returned to the spot and they didn’t raise a family.
Hopefully they will return this year and I will be keeping an eye on the area and will report updates here, probably once a week or more often if something happens.
