A new arrival

This coming Sunday, 24th January 2010, we will be welcoming a new arrival to come and live with us in the shape of Yogi, the young Border Terrier. Now I have never owned a dog before, yet alone live with one, whereas my girlfriend is dog mad having grown up with Border Terriers and Airedales (her parents currently have one of each).

Back when I was growing up, I viewed dogs as a complete menace and I couldn’t stand the sight of them. A local Jack Russell called Jasper used to enjoy chewing on my ankles as I walked past, Freddie the mongrel next door was the most vicious dog I’ve ever come across and used to regularly scare us kids to death when we were playing in our own back garden. So it could safely be said that I wasn’t a fan.

All this changed when I met my girlfriend. Naturally I was going to have to get used to them when we visited her parents house and with some coaxing and teaching, I was eventually able to sit in the same room as a roaming Airedale and Border (well she spends most of the time sitting in the corner of the sofa – well she is 9 years old!).

She has always wanted to have a dog of her own, and once it turned out that we were allowed to have one in the flat, the idea was explored. Now I was still quite apprehensive about the whole thing, but after going to view the puppies and then choosing one, well who couldn’t get excited. So I’ve completely changed my tune and am quite looking forward to Yogi, our very own little Border Terrier coming to live with us.

And here he is:

Yogi has been bred by Janet Briscoe from Poplar Kennels who is an established breeder of Border Terriers, and also owns and runs a Local Authority registered Boarding Kennel, set in 6 acres on the outskirts of the town of Chatteris in Cambridgeshire. All Border Terriers bred by Janet are Kennel Club registered with the Kennel Name Basatopa. Janet has been very friendly and full of information on Yogi and updating us with pictures and information ever since we reserved him. She’s highly recommended.
