Mr. Sherlock Holmes

Like many other people around the world I am a huge fan of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. I thought I had read them all until recently I came across a list of stories and discovered that I had not. I was on my phone at the time so I searched online for some decent HTML version.

Since the text of the stories themselves are freely available to use without fear of any copyright breach, there are a number of sites out there that offer the complete works to read in various formats. As mentioned above, I wanted plain HTML and I was fairly disappointed with what I found as they weren’t very readable.

So I decided to do something about it.

I’ve spent some hours over the last few weeks on this and today I put Mr. Sherlock Holmes online. There is currently only one story available, the first novel featuring Sherlock Holmes; A Study in Scarlet; but naturally I intend to add the rest of them over time.

I have used the Adobe Garamond Pro font (hosted by typekit) throughout, and I also took the opportunity to make use of Typeplate. The design itself is as simple as this site, concentrating on the content as that is the main focus. The content comes from Project Gutenberg.

In addition I have also added the ability to save your position in the text via a simple menu to act as a bookmark.

All thoughts, opinions and comments are welcome.
